Wednesday 27th March 2013 - Onto new stuff!

I've decided 5 songs per album/artist seems a sensible number - so that I don't get bored with repetition, and there's enough time to get a lot of variety into my work this term.

So now I've finished my military binge, it's onto landscapes and forests. Something I actually really love drawing.

This here's the first of 5 images. I managed to paint it incredibly fast, which i'm kind of happy with, as it allowed me to work on things other than this painting throughout the day. However, I need to spend longer on some pieces simply to get it to a good enough level to satisfy myself and potential clients.

Friday 22nd March 2013 - Editorial Play Around.

After showing some of my more recent works at university, there arose the idea that some of them could easily be adapted and interpreted in an editorial field - book covers, news article illustrations, and so forth. Because I paint whatever the hell I like, I'm not restricted like photographers to what is merely real, I can push it further and create situations that are plausible, and which can be imagined to be real, but which aren't.

Some of these experimentations and adaptations I thought were quite interesting, so thought I'd throw them up here.

I was particularly happy with how the book cover came out - amazing how a blank template can really change the aesthetic of a design.

Wednesday 20th March - On a Warpath

4 of the 5 paintings produced for Warpath (Ireland). Hoping to get the final one painted today, and then move on to Northern Oak!

After that the plan goes:
Eastern Front
Bonus if I have the time: Fen

And they will amount to the body of work produced for my final major project for University!

Monday 18th March 2013 - Minor site updates

Not really effecting my main website, but there's now a new button on the right which will take viewers to my Facebook page (set up exclusively to deal with art created and focused on the music industry), and some of my orbit sites (Tumblr, Twitter etc) have had their addresses changed to 'JHIllustrations', to try and establish a sole brand across the internet. Now all I need is a few spare pounds to change my deviant art name and all will be complete!

And because you come here to see artwork - here's some concepts for shirt designs for some bands**! I'm currently in talks to have all the shirts printed as actual official designs which the bands will then sell as they tour around this upcoming summer. I look forward to people wearing stuff I've drawn!

(**All logos are used solely as a design crutch - no intention is made to have these logos considered as A) My own work or B) to sell these products unless instructed or allowed by the aforementioned bands)

Thursday 7th March 2013 - Band Stuff

I now have a Facebook page!

Considering how easy it is to post and network over it, especially with bands and the like, it is being used exclusively for my music art.

One of my Warpath designs is now OFFICIAL! Which means it's being printed onto shirts, hopefully as I type, which is awesome news!

I also spent some time colouring up a few of these black and white designs:

While these are acceptable, they're not great, and neither were they time effective. In lieu of this, I endeavored to find a new technique which had the benefit of being fast, effective, and still maintained an applicability of being able to be put on shirts, posters, and anything else with equal effectiveness.

This is what I came up with. Inspired by a lot of my band shirts, the focus comes from the rim lights, and the actual colours of the main subject are all quite bland and neutral.

While I don't think this is super effective, it was my first painting and my first experiment, and I am more than willing to plug more time into looking at how to perfect this method.

And here's the t-shirt mock ups! Look pretty snazzy in my opinion...

So yeah! Head over to my Facebook page, give it a like, and see what happens!
